Alston

Alston Records was founded in 1962 by Al Silver in New York City, initially focusing on rhythm and blues and soul music. The label gained prominence in the 1960s and 1970s, becoming known for its diverse roster of artists and innovative sound. Notable acts included the soul group The Moments, whose hit "Love on a Two-Way Street" became a defining track of the era, and the funk band The Blackbyrds, who blended jazz and soul influences. Throughout its history, Alston also released music in genres such as disco and pop, contributing to the evolving landscape of American music. The label was associated with the larger parent company, the United Artists Records, which helped distribute its music more widely. Although Alston ceased operations in the late 1970s, its legacy endures through its influential recordings and the artists who shaped the sound of the time, leaving a lasting impact on the soul and R&B genres.
