Curtom

Curtom Records was founded in 1968 by musician Curtis Mayfield and his manager, Eddie Thomas, in Chicago, Illinois. Initially established to release Mayfield's solo work after his tenure with The Impressions, the label quickly gained prominence for its innovative blend of soul, funk, and R&B. Notable artists associated with Curtom include The Impressions, Mayfield himself, and groups like The Staple Singers and The Chi-Lites. The label became known for its socially conscious themes, particularly in Mayfield's music, which addressed issues such as civil rights and social justice. Throughout the 1970s, Curtom released a series of influential albums, contributing significantly to the evolution of soul music. Although the label faced challenges in the 1980s and eventually ceased operations, its legacy endures through its impact on the genre and its catalog of timeless recordings. Curtom remains a significant chapter in the history of American music.
