Dooto

Dooto Records was founded in 1959 by Dootsie Williams, a prominent figure in the Los Angeles music scene. The label initially focused on rhythm and blues, capturing the burgeoning sound of the era. Dooto gained recognition for its roster of artists, including notable performers like The Five Satins and The Shirelles, who contributed to the doo-wop and early rock and roll genres. During the early 1960s, Dooto expanded its reach, releasing a variety of singles that blended pop and R&B influences. The label’s most successful period was marked by its ability to produce hits that resonated with a diverse audience. Although it eventually faced challenges and ceased operations in the late 1960s, Dooto's legacy endures through its contributions to the doo-wop genre and its influence on subsequent record labels and artists. Today, it is remembered for its role in shaping the sound of early American popular music.
